Victory Square is one of the most solemn and majestic squares in Minsk.
The architectural dominant of the entire square, its compositional center is the Victory Monument. It was installed to mark the 10th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders (1954). It looked the same as it does now: a 38‑meter obelisk lined with gray granite with the image of the Order of Victory on top, bronze high—reliefs on four sides of the pedestal, and a sword entwined with a bronze laurel branch just below. There are four bronze wreaths around the obelisk, marking the four fronts whose soldiers took part in the liberation of Belarus.
