Independence Square is the main square of our state. The former Lenin Square received this name after the adoption by the Supreme Council of the "Declaration on State Sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus" (July 27, 1990). The central place on the square is occupied by the building of the Government House (1934, architect I.Langbard).
There is a legislative body of state power here - the Parliament, consisting of two chambers – the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic; the Council of Ministers is the central executive authority and other state institutions. The Government, the Council of Ministers, is accountable to the President of the Republic of Belarus in its activities. The building has the coat of arms and the flag of the state.
