Rakovsky suburb is one of the oldest historical districts of Minsk. The area began to form in the 11th century. It was on the territory of the Rakovsky suburb that the oldest streets of this city were located — Nemiga, Zavalnaya, Zamkovaya, Podzamkovaya. The area itself was one of the settlements located outside the Minsk detinets. The suburb was based on Rakovskaya Street, which, as its name implies, led towards Rakov, a village near Minsk known for its healing spring and church. The final architectural appearance of the Minsk landmark was formed by the 17th century. At that time, the area was inhabited by local Jewish merchants and artisans. By the 20th century, the area had become a factory. It was here that the Trud and Skorokhod shoe factories were located. The latter was famous for making shoes for the army.
